PROFILE

Season review- January 2024
By Artau Pascual

Maxime Raynaud is putting on display his entire scoring skillset for Stanford. Raynaud is establishing himself as a multidimensional with a wide contribution repertoire in pick&roll situations because of his hips fluidity, spatial awareness and soft touch at the non-restricted area. He also does a solid job finishing through contact, although he relies a lot on his short floater. Raynaud is also good at putting the ball on the floor against other bigs: his outside shooting results are not good, but he's a proven and convincing shooter, and this allows him to find driving lanes. Raynaud is also a smooth operator as a passer from the top of the key: he can create looks for his teammates in DHO schemes or throw bounce passes to cutters. Smart floor-stretcher that will eventually turn into a good shooter.

On the defensive end, Raynaud is good at mapping the court and reading the ideas of the opponent. He doesn't project as a switchable big, but he's solid at communicating, and he can hold his matchups against physical and athletic PAC-12 bigs. He struggles at guarding lob threats because of his verticality issues and backpedaling speed.

U20 European Championship- July 2023
By Artau Pascual

Skilled, has a wide repertoire of scoring tools. Took advantage of his polished footwork to score in the paint going either shoulder. Soft touch. Was able to duck in and offer lanes for entry passes. Played with energy and motor to fill the lanes in transition. Offered screens and was active to improve the halfcourt offense of his team, and also shot a couple of movement threes. On the defensive end, he did a good job at measuring the distance in various pick&roll coverages and felt comfortable working alongside lengthy wings and forwards.

Adidas Next Generation Tournament Valencia - December 2020
After having a minor role in a loaded French team in the 2019 FIBA U16 European Championship Division A, Raynaud made a step forward and had a strong tournament averaging 14.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. Standing at 7’0, Raynaud has an impressive combination of size, coordination, soft hands and potential as a shooter that allow him to be very productive playing the P&R. He is able to score as a roller thanks to his reliable hands, but at the same time, he is a great option as a short-roller thanks to his shooting touch and ability to distribute the ball from the high post area. Although his 3-point shot didn’t fall in Valencia (16.7% on 3 attempts per game), his form and soft touch from mid range suggest potential to shoot more consistently from distance in the
future. His mobility and athleticism allow him to beat his defender attacking the closeout with one or two dribbles, and also to be a great offensive rebounder (4.3 per game). On the other hand, despite his size and solid athleticism, Raynaud lacks elite skills as a rim protector and his frame needs to bulk up to handle the physicality of the next level.
